Veterinary Professionals and Their Role in Pet Care

Two veterinarians examining a happy dog in a clinic.

A supportive second opinion service — designed to work with you, not around you

Pet Lighthouse is an independent second opinion service that stands out in the realm of veterinary support. Our mission is to enhance and fortify the bond between you and your clients, rather than replace it. We offer pet owners the opportunity for deeper discussions regarding their pet care decision-making, utilizing the Five Domains framework while considering the broader personal, emotional, and practical factors that influence these choices. This important work often requires more time than what is typically allotted in a standard 15–20 minute consultation.

Built by a GP vet, for the realities of GP practice

As a general practice vet with over 15 years’ experience in first-opinion work, I understand the daily pressures you face. Nuanced, emotionally charged conversations about pet care decision-making are difficult to manage when the waiting room is full and the ops list is long.

Caroline Allen. FRCVS, Founder, Pet Lighthouse

We all want clients to make informed, thoughtful decisions — but time constraints can leave:

vets feeling stretched and stressed

clients feeling overwhelmed, unheard, or unclear

That’s why Pet Lighthouse exists to provide essential veterinary support and a valuable second opinion service to help bridge that gap.

When Pet Lighthouse can help your clients

Pet Lighthouse is particularly valuable for pet owners who are: struggling with pet care decision-making when faced with complex or competing treatment options, managing the ongoing care needs of a chronically or seriously unwell pet, confronting quality-of-life or end-of-life decisions, or feeling emotionally overwhelmed and stuck in decision paralysis.

We offer a second opinion service that provides in-depth, neutral support, allowing clients to process information, clarify their values, and prepare for more productive conversations with veterinary support.

Protecting the vet–client relationship

In highly emotional situations, even strong vet–client relationships can become strained. Pet Lighthouse can act as a “release valve”, offering an independent perspective that helps diffuse tension and reduce the risk of conflict or complaints.

Importantly:

  • We do not prescribe or provide treatment
  • We do not take over case management
  • Clients are always encouraged to return to their own vet for ongoing care

Your clinical role remains central.

Our client promise of professionalism

“I will never undermine the relationship you have with your local vet.
Instead, I aim to empower you with the clarity and questions you need to make your future visits more productive and focused.”
— Caroline Allen, Founder, Pet Lighthouse
